Mason City police uncovered the losses during an internal audit, and a Cerro Gordo County judge ordered full restitution as part of this week’s sentencing.
   

2. iJAG & Riverhawkmania Winter Drive Now Accepting Donations (kiow.com) — Mason City students with iJAG and Riverhawkmania are collecting winter gear, gifts, and donations now to support local families, with items handed out December 22 at Hy-Vee East from 2–5 p.m. Neighbors are encouraged to donate coats, boots, toys, gift cards, or cash so anyone needing help can pick up items, no questions asked.

Northwood man faces 15 years after guilty plea in Mason City burglary case (kgloam.com) — A Northwood man will be sentenced in January after admitting to theft and burglary tied to a September apartment incident in Mason City. Prosecutors are recommending a 15-year prison term in Cerro Gordo County District Court after he entered a 9th Street Northeast residence and took money while displaying a fake gun.

MHS shows Hoover no mercy, 44-13 (timesrepublican.com) — Marshalltown’s girls’ basketball team cruised past Des Moines Hoover 44-13 to move to 5-0, setting up a key conference test against Mason City’s Riverhawks. Mason City, which has dominated the series for years, visits the Roundhouse Friday night in a matchup the Bobcats have been eagerly anticipating.
   

5. OBIT: Cynthia Lou West (northiowatoday.com) — Mason City is mourning the unexpected passing of lifelong resident Cynthia Lou West, who died at home on December 8 at age 68. Known for her quiet dedication to caring for family, nursing home residents, and even her beloved cats, she leaves behind siblings and extended family across Iowa, Minnesota, and Oklahoma who will cherish her memory.
