β€’ Newton man arrested after short standoff with police (who13.com) β€” Police arrested a Newton resident Sunday morning after a brief standoff at a southwest Newton home, where officers say a woman found her ex-husband inside with what appeared to be a gun-like object. Negotiators and the NPD SWAT team responded, and the man was taken into custody without incident on burglary and harassment charges. A no-contact order has been requested.

He’ll team with Texas driver Brenham Crouch, aiming to turn their strong 2025 results into a full championship run starting in March at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

β€’ Phillips wins title, Tigerhawks place ninth at Chariton Girls Invitational (newtondailynews.com) β€” Area wrestling fans saw several familiar names at the Chariton Girls Invitational, where Colfax-Mingo’s girls placed ninth out of 19 teams and Newton’s Ashlyn Van Manen was twice defeated at 235 pounds. Kennedy Phillips led the Tigerhawks with a 4-0, all-pins title run at 190, while teammates Isabella Cushatt, Emmalyn Buchman, and Londyn Alanis also reached the podium.
