Cory McBride, who leads multiple Oelwein bands and teaches music courses, received the Philip Sehmann Excellence in Teaching Award during a regional honor band event hosted in Oelwein on December 6.
   

• Northern Iowa house raid leads to arrest of suspect, drug seizure (northiowatoday.com) — Oelwein police executed a search warrant Tuesday evening on 3rd Avenue NE, seizing illegal drugs and arresting a 62-year-old Oelwein resident on multiple felony possession charges. The suspect was taken to the Fayette County Jail, and authorities say additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
