AUDIO: Urbandale Boy Who Called 911 To Save Mom Was Trying to Be a Superhero

Khayden Arnold spent nearly 15 minutes on the phone with Polk County Dispatcher Maggie Brodeur on Sept. 29 while she tried to glean information to get medics to his mother, Raine Arnold.

The 4-year-old Urbandale boy who dialed 911 last week to save his mother's life told KCCI-TV that he was "a little" scared when his mother passed out at home. "I thinked about I needed to call 991 and I need to be a superhero," he said.

Khayden Arnold stayed on the phone with Polk County Dispatcher Maggie Brodeur nearly 15 minutes on Sept. 29 as she tried to glean information that would lead paramedics to the family's' home.

He told her his name and his mother's name, but he was difficult to understand.

Khayden's mother, Raine Arnold, who has diabetes, had gone into insulin shock because her blood glucose dropped too low. Because Khayden dialed 911 on his mother's cell phone, the family's address didn't automatically pop up on Brodeur's screen, Brodeur said later. Β She had to narrow the location down based on the location of the nearest cell phone tower to the family's home.

Raine Arnold told KCCI that Khayden sometimes gets the numbers in 911 mixed up, but she was so grateful that he dialed the number correctly. "He's my little hero," she said.
