• Salvation Army says gold coin was found inside red kettle in Urbandale (kcci.com) — A mystery donor quietly dropped a $4,000 gold coin into the Salvation Army red kettle at the Hy-Vee in Urbandale on Dec. 9, giving a big boost to the charity’s holiday campaign. Salvation Army leaders say rare gold-coin gifts significantly strengthen local social services, and red kettles will continue outside metro stores, including Urbandale, through Dec. 24.
