Babysitters Reported Drinking: Urbandale, Waukee Teens Charged With Underage Alcohol Possession

Urbandale police officers responded to a medical call Saturday and found two teens drinking.

Two teenage baby-sitters were charged with possession of alcohol Saturday.

A 15-year-old Urbandale girl phoned police Saturday afternoon for help for her friend while the girls were caring for four children.

The teen from Urbandale called police in a panic after her friend had been throwing up.

When officers arrived at a residence in the 4300 block of 159th Street, they found the girl and her 15-year-old friend from Waukee had been reportedly drinking, according to a police report.

The Urbandale teen had been babysitting four children between the ages of 18 months and four years old. The children were found sitting on the couch, Urbandale Police Officer Jeff Casey told the Des Moines Register.

The teens, who were picked by by parents, were both charged with possession of alcohol by a minor. The Waukee teen had a blood alcohol level of .152, almost twice the legal limit. The Urbandale teen had a blood alcohol level of .067.

A person with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher is considerered intoxicated under Iowa law.

The case has been referred to the Dallas County Attorney's Office juvenile court.
