Business 101: Van-Based Venture Falls Flat for Accused Meth Dealer

Vehicles work for a mobile business when a., you're the ice cream man, b., it's a lunch truck or c. you have a bookmobile.

But, this business model has its limits.

A Des Moines man learned that lesson the hard way last week when he allegedly applied this business solution to peddling methamphetamine.

Police say Steven Lee Stanley, 59, was selling meth from his van parked near an Urbandale apartment complex on Saturday afternoon, according to a Des Moines Register report. Police were tipped off about cars frequently stopping by the van and people getting in an out, according to the Register report.

When officers arrived on scene they found Stanley, 59, in possession of more than five grams of meth, individual baggies, syringes and prescription drugs, according to a police report.

Lacy Kline, 29, of Ankeny, reportedly was inside the van when police approached Stanley. When she got out of the car, Kline allegedly gave police a fake name. She also stepped out of a squad car without permission after officers had detained her, Peterson said.

Stanley was charged with possession with intent to distribute and possession of a schedule II controlled substance, according to the Urbandale police log. The Register reports he was also rung up on violation of parole and booked on a $101,000 bond. 

Kline faces charges for harassment of police officer, interference with official acts and outstanding warrants, according to the Urbandale Police log. She is booked on a $6,000 bond, according to the Register.
