Council Approves New Outdoor Warning Siren

The new siren will be located in the area near Walnut Creek Park.

Residents near Walnut Creek Park will have a new, $20,599 warning system in their area.

The Urbandale City Council approved the installation of an outdoor warning siren at 142nd Street and Meredith Drive at Monday's meeting.

The new outdoor warning siren aims to improve coverage in the area of the new Walnut Creek Park.

The planned location of the siren is in the area of the power sub-station south of 142nd and Meredith Drive intersection.

The location will provide coverage for the Regional Park, current homes in the area as well as future development.

The two-way system will be compatible with the city's over-all outdoor warning system.

The project will consist of the purchase of the equipment, the installation and the configuration of the two-way system and activation points.Β 

The low bid was from Danko Emergency Equipment for installation and from Federal Warning Systems for the equipment.Β 

The Council approved $20,599 for the purchase and installation of the new outdoor warning siren, which includes Federal Warning Systems in the amount of $14,909 and Danko Emergency Equipment for installation in the amount of $5,650.
