Six Great Holiday Events for Urbandale Kids

Urbandale's Parks and Recreation Department has planned six great holiday events for kids this month.

Register now by calling 278-3963 or find the registration form online. If you miss the deadline for registration, parks officials urge you to call anyway to see if there is still space for your child.

Friday, Dec. 9: Flashlight Candy Cane Hunt. Parents can join their kids (ages 10 and under) in a quest for hidden candy canes from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the .

Bring your own, flashlight, bag and camera. Hot cider and cocoa will be served and there will be a photo opportunity with Santa. Registration deadline was Friday Dec. 2, but call to see if there is still room for your child.

Saturday, Dec. 10: Brunch with Santa (ages 2-7) from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Urbandale Senior Center, 7305 Aurora Ave. $10.

Kids will enjoy donuts and juice with Santa, plus holiday crafts, cookie decorating, singing and more. Bring your child’s wish list and your camera. Registration deadline: Dec. 5. 

Saturday, Dec. 17: Cookies for Santa (ages 3-8) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Urbandale Senior Center, 7305 Aurora Ave. $8.

Making cookies for Santa is a wonderful holiday tradition. Parents and kids can decorate their own cookies and take them home for Santa to enjoy on Christmas Eve. Bring your camera and a cookie container. Registration deadline: Dec. 12. 

Friday, Dec. 23; Dec. 26-30: Winter Break swim hours, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the , 7201 Aurora Ave. $4

Even if the weather outside is frightful, the water at the Urbandale Public Swimming Pool is always warm! Families can take advantage of afternoon holiday swim hours; games at 2:00 p.m.

Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 28 & 29:  Magicamp with Lee Cole (ages 8-15) at the from 9:00 a.m. to noon. $45.

Here’s something fun and new to do during holiday break: kids can learn how to amaze friends, family and classmates with magic tricks used to entertain on cruise ships! Register online Dec. 13–21.

Saturday, Dec. 31: Noon Year's Eve at the , 7201 Aurora Ave. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. $8.

Celebrate New Year's Eve early at the pool with music, party hats, party favors, food and games. It's fun for the whole family! Register online or call 278-3963.
