Why Go: Eat your holiday treats but keep off the pounds by participating in these weekly line dancing lessons through Jan. 6. Beginners are welcome.

2. GO BUCS!

Where/When: Buccaneers Arena, 7201 Hickman Road, Friday, 7:05 p.m.
Why Go: Watch the fourth-ranked Buccaneers take on the sixth-ranked Sioux City Musketeers.
Price: Arena level seats: $15 for adults, $12 for children.
3. DAHL'S HOLIDAY EVENT
Where/When: Dahl's, 8700 Hickman Road, Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: Children can visit Santa and get their picture taken with him. There also will be a free cookie-decorating station. Dahl's also is hosting a coloring contest until Dec. 17. Winners in different age brackets will win a gift basket.

4. COOKIE BAKING PARTY
Where/When: Museum Store, (inside the Visitors Center) 2600 111th St., Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.
Why Go: Need to find a gift that says Iowa? Enjoy Christmas cookies and hot cider while you shop and while the kids are busy decorating their own Christmas cookie.Β

5. CHRISTMAS LONG AGO OPEN HOUSE
Where/When: , 4010 70th St., Sunday, 2-4 p.m.
Why Go: Once home to some of Urbandale's founders, the Urbandale Historical Society has an open house there one Sunday a month. If you've never been before, check out the home when it's decorated for the holidays. Refreshments will be served and tour guides will share Christmas stories from the past.
