Five Things to Know Today
A short list of interesting things happening in Urbandale today.

1. Don't forget to vote in the school board elections today. Urbandale's board has four unopposed candidates, but there's a six-way race in Waukee for three seats. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Check theΒ polling place finder if you're not sure where to vote.
2. It's a busy week night for high school sports.
- Urbandale Girls Volleyball hosts Roosevelt tonight at 7:30 p.m.
- The girls swim team will race against Des Moines East at the East High pool, 815 E 13th St.,at 5:30 p.m.
- Waukee girls will swim against Des Moines North and Newton at the Waukee YMCA at 5 p.m.
- And the girls and boys cross country teams from both schools will compete in the invitational at West Des Moines Valley at Valley Southwoods at 4:30 p.m.
3. There's room for nine more people in the fall Walk the Trails class. The $15 class started Thursday, but call city Β at 278-3963 or check online registration to jump in. Barb Beddow leads the walks from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

4. If you're 50 or older and need an excuse to get more active, you have until Friday to apply for a βPassport to Funβ for Active Aging Week, Sept. 26-29.Β Sponsored by the Urbandale Senior Center, the passports allow you to earn stamps for participating in free events such as a tennis clinic, a bocce ball demonstration.Β Applications are available at the senior center or online.
5. Seniors: get a free hearing screening today from 10 a.m. to noon at Woodard Hearing Center.Β
