Travel Still Unadvised in Metro; How's Urbandale?

Here's the latest news on the ongoing snow storm.

Travel is still not advised in Urbandale, along with the rest of the metro.

Two jackknifed semis are blocking parts of Interstate 80 near Urbandale at the Grimes exit, KCCI is reporting.

But that's not the only trouble area in Urbandale.

The Douglas Avenue exit was closed early Thursday morning after more than 20 semis were stuck in the snow, the Des Moines Register reported.

Tim Stovie, assistant public works director, told the Des Moines Register road conditions remain poor after winter storm Draco dropped more than 8 inches of snow on Urbandale.

Crews have hit all of main streets in Urbandale, except for a few neighborhoods, Stovie said. He hopes crews can wrap up around 5 p.m.

Winter Storm Draco did just as expected - dumped nearly 12 inches of snow in several areas of the state.

Urbandale recorded 8.6 inches, according to KCCI.

Snow will continue to fall until mid-afternoon then taper off.

The snow ordinance in Urbandale will remain in effect. The National Weather Service blizzard warning expires at 6 p.m. .

Although the snow will stop falling, it won't stop blowing.

The Iowa State Patrol says travel is not advised on any Iowa interstates and highways.

Iowa road conditions can be fond via 511 Iowa.
