Remember to Set Clocks Back an Hour Tonight

Turn your clocks back an hour when you go to bed tonight. And while you're at it, replace the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, so don't forget to set your clocks to an hour earlier tonight. At the same time, change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs has a campaign to remind people to "Change Your Clock Change Your Battery" Β so that smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are changed once or twice a year.

Some 19 percent of American homes with smoke detectors don't have even one that works. That's because of missing or dead batteries, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

The association recommends that batteries be changed at least once a year and that detectors be replaced every 10 years. (Write the date you installed the detector on the back when you put it up.)

Smoke detectors should be placed in every occupied bedroom of the house as well as on every floor of the home.
