Urbandale Day Care Strikers Launch Diaper Drive
Child-care workers who went on strike last week, prompting the owner of two Imagination and Education Stations to close them down, are seeking help from the public.

Former Urbandale child-care center workers will be asking the public for help Tuesday and Wednesday at the Windsor Heights Hy-Vee.
The women, who picketed beginning last week because some had not been paid for almost a month, launched the "Day Care Strikers Diaper Drive," said Allison Little, a co-director for the Urbandale Center and one of the organizers of the women.
The women will be in front of the supermarket at 7101 University Ave. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, asking the public to contribute diapers, wipes, food, or gas cards.

Last week the women applied for lost wages and unemployment benefits, but some learned that the Iowa Workforce Development office had no record of them working at the center, so they are not for unemployment benefits.
Jamie Schillinger, another organizer, said the women have an appointment to meet with Gov. Terry Branstad on Friday.
