Urbandale, Help Us Write History on Historic Nexus of Inauguration, MLK Day: Call for Uploads
Whether you're celebrating President Obama's inauguration to a second term, serving others to commemorate the Martin Luther King holiday or both, make it part of the permanent historic record on Urbandale Patch.

Talk about stars aligning.
The 2013 Inaugural Ceremony swearing in the nationβs first African-American president to a second term and the observance honoring slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. occur on the same day.
The two historic occasions have intersected only seven other times in U.S. history, making this coming Jan. 21 a truly historic day.
Officially, Inauguration Day falls on Jan. 20 every four years. But thatβs a Sunday, so the inauguration ceremony slides a day ahead, ramming smack into Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Itβs a kind of kismet, the NAACPβs Hilary Shelton told the Washington Post.
βIt works so well together,β said Shelton, the vice president of policy and advocacy for the civil rights organization and director of its Washington, DC bureau βItβs a wonderful thing, because so many people that support Dr. Kingβs legacy and believe in his dream will be coming to this inauguration.β
Shelton said many Americans see Obamaβs policy agenda as βsomething that supports Dr. Kingβs vision.β
βIf we look at the agenda put forward by this administration, we see a direct correlation with what Dr. King worked for and died for,β he said.
