Winter Storm Warning: Urbandale Snow Ordinance Begins at 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Tuesday evening.

The City of Urbandale snow ordinance takes effect at 5 p.m.

The ordinance means all vehicles must be off the streets.

City Crews plan to have plows on the street by 2 a.m. and hope to make significant impact before the morning commute, according to the Des Moines Register.

First comes rain, then comes the snow.

As temperatures drop this evening, snowfall will increase throughout the overnight.

Snowfall totals tonight could be as high as four to five inches across the state, KCCI reports.

Don't worry though, while your commute home might be wet, snow won't begin until later.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Polk County from 6 p.m. Tuesday and lasting until noon Wednesday.

Rain and snow are likely before midnight, changing to all snow with accumulations of 3 to 5 inches possible. It’ll be blustery, with a 14-23 mph wind Β gusting to up to 31 mph. The low will be around 22, with wind chill values around 10. Precipitation chance: 80 percent.

Snowfall will combine with strong winds and may lead to hazardous conditions Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service said with the evolving system timing and location of heaviest snow is uncertain.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, there’s a 40 percent chance of additional snow before noon, then a chance of flurries. The high will be near 24, with wind chill values making it feel more like 5. Wednesday night, the low will dip to around 6, with wind chill values of around -10

Cold temperatures continue through Thursday, which the National Weather Service says will be blustery with wind gusts as high as 23 mph. Expect a slight warmup Friday, when temperatures will recover into the 20s.
