Groundhog Day takes place on Saturday this year.

It's the day that ends all discussion of just how much longer winter will last.

While Groundhog Day isn't necessarily a scientific way to determine winter's end, it's fun, none the less.

According to Stormfax.com, Punxsutawney Phil has only been correct 39% of the time.

The day has origins in ancient celebration of a point mid-way between Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox.

The most famous of groundhogs - Punxsutawney Phil - has been entertaining thousands of people for more than 100 years. Okay, the original probably isn't with us any longer, but his doubles do their job.

According to folklore, if the groundhog emerges from its burrow and it is cloudy, then spring will come early. If he sees his shadow, bundle-up because there are six more weeks of winter to endure.
