Winter Storm Alert: How Much Will Winter Storm Triton Dump on Urbandale?

Heavy snow began in the area late Sunday afternoon.

It’s not over until it’s over. Weekend thunderstorms teased Urbandale and the rest of central Iowa, but there’s at least one major winter storm – Triton – as a reminder that it’s not spring yet.

Triton could dump up to 7 inches of wet, heavy snow by morning by Monday morning. Winds are expected to increase and reduce visibility overnight. The National Weather Service in Des Moines said the slow-moving storm.

Urbandale and the rest of central Iowa are under a winter storm warning until 7 a.m. Monday.

Forecaster say snow will remain in the forecast through Wednesday. Scattered flurries are forecast both Tuesday and Wednesday before the 40s return Thursday.

On Monday, expect partly sunny skies but frigid temperatures as a blustery north northwest wind sends wind chill values as low as 10. The low Monday night will be around 18, with wind chill values as low as 5.

Cold temperatures continue Tuesday, with a high near 32, but wind chill values as low as 5. Wednesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 30 and some flurries.
