1) Back-to-School Health Fair
The Waukee Area Christian Services Free Clinic is hosting a Back-to-School Health Fair for students of all ages regardless of income today from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. and screenings are done on a first come, first served basis.

Even if you didn’t make it out yesterday, you can still nab some great bargains as part of Iowa’s annual sales tax free weekend. It’s only held once a year and being that you still have all that back-to-school shopping to do, well, you should probably get going.
3) The Ames Straw Poll

Only seven days left until the Straw Poll takes over Ames. You can still rub elbows with the Republican elite and thousands of their supporters by buying your own ticket to the big bash. They’re just $30.
4) The Weather
Lawns everywhere are breathing a sign of relief thanks to the brief downpour we experienced yesterday. Today is expected to be a bit drier with a 20 percent chance of storms late in the day. Highs are expected in the upper 80s.
5) Fill’er Up!
If you’re heading out to the lake today, stop by Casey's on Hwy 6 and Warrior Lane to fill up. Gas there is just $3.56 a gallon, according to IowaStateGasPrices.com.
