Candidate Profile: Troy Weiland, Dallas County Auditor
Troy Weiland, a retired Army veteran with two overseas deployments behind him, says he's running for Dallas County Auditor to serve his county.

He may not have a lot of experience running elections or dealing with real estate, but what he lacks there, he makes up for with a desire to serve.
Troy Weiland, Republican candidate for the Dallas County Auditor's seat, recenty retired from the United States Army, where he served two overseas deployments in both Iraq and Afghanistan. After 30 years of service to his country, Weiland says it's time to serve more locally.
"I have always liked politics but while I was active, I was never able to run for a position," he said. "I’ve always served God and country, and now I want to serve citizens locally in Dallas County. Now that I'm retired, I can actively pursue that."

Weiland says timing was everything when deciding what office he wanted to run for. The auditor's job was open and a good fit with his skill set.
"Being in the Army, I was managing a lot of budgets and so forth so when I took a look at what the auditor does, I thought it would be a good fit with my experience. Coupled with my leadership background, I thought I could do it justice."

Weiland, who lives in Adel, says if elected, he will bring integrity and Iowa values to the Dallas County Auditor's office.
"What I bring is strong leadership ability, integrity and good Iowa values," he said. "I want to be accountable to help uphold those standards. I really want to build voter efficiency and improve communications and be a good steward for taxpayers' money. Gene Krumm has made some mistakes along the way. I can bring integrity back to the Auditor's office."
Campaign Finances
Campaign finance reports filed last week with the Iowa Ethics & Campaign Disclosure Board show that Weiland has had few campaign contributions and has taken out loans to pay for his campaign.
According to reports, after just $200 in cash contributions and $9,200 in loans, Weiland is at $9,400 raised. After expenditures of $8,715.17, he's left with $684.83.
