Chad Leonard Remains as Dallas County Sheriff
In a lop-sided defeat, Chad Leonard retains his seat as Dallas County Sheriff.
There was no arguing with the numbers Tuesday night - Dallas County residents wanted Chad Leonard as their sheriff.
With 2,733 votes, Leonard, a Republican from Dallas Center, virtually crushed his opponent, Jim Romar, a retired police officer from West Des Moines. Romar captured only 345 votes in the GOP primary election.
Leonard said he ran his campaign for re-election much like he's run the Dallas County Sheriff's office since 2007.

"I'm very proud of how we ran our race," he said. "We kept everything positive and clean and I believe the voters responded to that."

First elected in January 2007 and re-elected in November 2008, Leonard sought a third term - his second full term as Dallas County Sheriff - to continue to protect and serve the people of Dallas County.
On his website, Leonard wrote: "As sheriff, I will not try to build trust just by talking about it; I will build it by achieving results, always with integrity and in a manner that shows real personal regard for the people I serve."
He says his re-election means he can continue to build on the progress he's made over the last five years. He's glad the citizens of Dallas County were able to see that.
"We've made huge changes at the sheriff's office in my tenure thus far, and we have more to do," Leonard said. "Thanks to all of those citizens that found the time to get out and vote or sent in an absentee ballot."
