Five Things Waukee Residents Should Know: August 13
Here's what's going on in and around Waukee today and a couple other things you can't live without knowing.

1) Waukee FestÂ
The City of Waukee is asking for your help. If you are interested in sponsoring, being a vendor or getting involved in the Waukee Fest parade, there's still time to get your registrations in. Entry forms can be found at www.waukee.org/waukeefest.html. Deadline for sponsorship is Monday, vendor booths are still being filled as space allows and parade registration is due August 25. 2)Â The Iowa State Fair

Saturday is Drake University day at the Iowa State Fair. Visit the Drake tent on Rock Island Avenue to meet the athletes and Spike the Bulldog as well as getting your photo done in their photo booth. Â
3) Straw Poll

The build-up has been big and now its here! The Ames Straw Poll begins this morning at 9 a.m. Voting begins at 10 a.m., program begins at 12 p.m. and voting closes at 4 p.m. Tickets are $30 and they are required to cast a vote.
4) The Weather
Nice day ahead...Partly sunny with a slight chance of showers in the morning. High in the upper 70s. Tonight is partly cloudy. Low in the lower 60s.
5) Slow Down
If you're heading down to the Iowa State Fair or even the Ames Straw Poll, watch your speed. Des Moines Police announced the location of their new speed camera on 1-235. The cameras will be located along the interstate at 56th Street and Polk Boulevard. Anyone caught on camera speeding could be sent a violation in the mail.
