Five Things Waukee Residents Should Know: August 15
Here's what's going on in Waukee today and some other stuff you might want to know.

1) Yard Waste Pick Up Day
Today is Yard Waste day. Make sure that all yard waste is placed on the curb in clearly marked containers or yard waste bags, and that sticks, twigs and tree limbs are bundled and are no longer than four feet. If your yard waste is missed today, the City asks that you contact the Utility Office at 978-5502.
2) All Schools Open House

Tonight's the final step in heading back to class for the 2011-2012 school year. Open houses will be held tonight for all schools in the Waukee School District. Times are as follows: elementary schools, 5pm - 7pm; middle schools, 6pm-8pm; PV and high school, 5:30 pm -7:30 pm.
3) Waukee Leadership Institute Reception

Are you interested in being a part of the 2011-2012 Waukee Leadership Institute leadership class? There is a reception for all interested parties Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the home of Steve & Erna Morain, 645 Woodcrest Dr. If you can attend, please RSVP to ernamorain@mac.com or ryontz@live.com. The next session of the Leadership Institute begins September 8.
4) Fundraiser for Rob Taylor
Former Dallas County GOP chairman Rob Taylor is running for a seat in the House of Representatives. There will be a private fundraiser for Taylor Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the home of Scott and Julie Cirksena, 16330 Boston Pkwy in Clive. Suggested donation is $25 per person. There is a planned appearance by Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds.
5) Doggie Dip @ Valley View Aquatic Center
The season has come to a close for humans at the Valley View Aquatic Center but not the canines. The Aquatic Center will be open tonight from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m. just for the dogs. Cost is $5 per dog and there are only 60 dogs admitted per session. Admission is on a first come, first served basis.Â
