Five Things Waukee Residents Should Know: August 17
Here's what's going on in Waukee today and some other stuff you might want to know.

1) Back-to-School
Some parents have waited all summer for this day and now it’s here. All Waukee schools start back today at the regular time. Kindergarteners in all elementary schools will have an abbreviated school day that begins at 9:45 a.m. Good luck to all Waukee students!
2) Brookview PTO Coffee

The Brookview PTO would like to invite all parents and any children not yet in school to the Panera at Jordan Creek Town Center for coffee and/or breakfast. It’s a chance for Brookview parents to socialize and celebrate the first day of school. Parents are encouraged to come and go as necessary. They will be there from 9 a.m. to noon
3) Waukee Chamber Networking Luncheon

The Waukee Chamber of Commerce is holding a networking luncheon tomorrow (Thursday) at The Village at Legacy Point, 1650 SE Holiday Crest Circle, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The speaker will be Amy Busack from the National Kidney Foundation. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of. You can register for the event at www.waukeechamber.com/registration.
4) Iowa State Fair
Today is Older Iowans Day at the Iowa State Fair, sponsored by Iowa Family Caregiver. The “Older Iowan Idol” competition will feature talented Iowans ages 60 and older at 10 a.m. and again at noon on the Budweiser Stage. Admission is $10 for adults, $4 for children 6-12 and children 5 and under are free.
5) The Weather
Nothing but blues skies for the first day back-to-school. Looks like it will be mostly sunny with a high near 84. Tonight, partly cloudy with a low near 62.
