Five Things Waukee Residents Should Know: August 19
Here's what's going on in Waukee today and some other stuff you might want to know.

1) Waukee Elementary Kindergarten Meet & Greet Tonight
The Waukee Elementary PTO invites is hosting a meet & greet for new kindergarteners from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight on the Waukee Elementary Playground. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and mingle and meet with their kindergarten teachers and classmates.
2) Waukee vs. Ankeny

The Waukee High School varsity football season kicks off tonight with an away game vs. Ankeny. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Ankeny Stadium at 1302 N. Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny. Come cheer on your Waukee Warriors.
3) Swim Around at the YMCA

So the aquatic center is closed. Bummer. Why not take advantage of the pool at the Waukee YMCA? Open swim is offered twice today, once at 6:00-7:45 a.m. and again from 12:00-9:30pm. Grab your suit and those non-school age kids. They’ll love you for it.
4) Iowa State Fair
Today is Iowa Corn Day at the Iowa State Fair.  Join the Iowa Corn Power Team with racing and the Iowa and Iowa State sports teams on the Grand Concourse at the Iowa State Fair . You can win prizes, meet the teams, and tailgate complete with games, gifts and prizes. Admission is $10 for adults, $4 for children 6-12 and children 5 and under are free.

5) The Weather
There is a 20 percent chance of storms today, partly sunny with a high near 86. Tonight, a 30 percent chance of storms with a low near 66.
