Five Things Waukee Residents Should Know: August 26

Here's what's going on in Waukee today and some other stuff you might want to know.

1) Waukee High School Football Home Opener

The Waukee Warriors take on Sioux City East tonight beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Waukee Stadium. Tonight marks the home opener for the Waukee Warriors football team. They play again next Friday at Southeast Polk High School.

2) Are You Ready for Some Pancakes?

WaukeeFest starts tomorrow bright and early with an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast hosted by the West Side Kiwanis Club beginning at 7 a.m. on the Triangle under the community tent. Proceeds from the breakfast will go toward the purchase of books for Waukee Elementary students.

3) Bowl Under the Blacklights

If you're looking for a little something different to do tonight, check out Warrior Lanes' X-Treme Bowling. For $5 a game and $2.50 shoe rentals, you can bowl under blacklights, jam out to the music and party well past your bedtime. That's 1 a.m. for all you early birds.

4) The Weather

Today expect sunny skies with a high near 81. Tonight, clear with a low of 63.

5) Did You Know?

According to the last US Census numbers released in February 2011, the population of Waukee was 13,790 residents. The number of students starting school in the Waukee School District  this year is nearly 7,000. That’s more than half the population of the city of Waukee.
