What to Do This Halloween in Waukee

If you're already making plans for Halloween 2012, you're come to the right place.

Looking for some good old-fashioned Halloween fun this week? Well, if you're living in Waukee, look no further than Waukee Patch.

We have the skinny, the rundown, the 411 on all things Halloween whether you're 5 or 55. Take a look at some of the things scheduled beginning the week of Oct. 22.

Oct. 25

Head on over to Mickey's Irish Pub and carve a pumpkin for the chance to win a $75 or $50 gift certificate. Mickey's will provide the pumpkins and carving tools. Carving is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Waukee Public Library will host a Spooktacular Halloween Party from 7 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 25. Come in costume, get some spooky treats and listen to some not-so-scary Halloween stories. There is no charge for the party.

Oct. 27

Mickey's Irish Pub is hosting a costume contest on Friday, Oct. 27. Where your best costume and show it off for a chance to win. There will be prizes — $150 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for staff favorite. The live band Sister Sara will play that night. The event goes from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. There is no cover to attend.

Oct. 28

The 2nd Annual "Run Before the Boo" 5K will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Waukee Family YMCA. The race will allow participants to feel guilt free before enjoying Halloween candy this October and costumes are encouraged.

A kids 50-yard dash will be held following the completion of the 5K. Packet pick up and race day registration will begin at 1 p.m., with the race starting at 2 p.m.

Registration is $35 per person with proceeds supporting the Waukee YMCA's YPartners annual campaign. There is no registration fee for the kids 50-yard dash. Contact the Waukee Y at (515) 987-9996 for more information.

Warrior Lanes is hosting a Family Halloween Bowling Party on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 1-3 p.m. For $55 per lane, families get glow-in-the-dark bowling, concert lights, fog, sound and blacklights with two hours of bowling, shoe rental, a large 1 topping pizza and a pitcher of soda. Pre-paid reservations need to be made by Oct. 26. Contact Warrior Lanes at (515) 987-4840 for more information.

Oct. 30

Beggar's Night in Waukee will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. Residents are asked to keep a porch light on at their home if they plan to hand out candy.
