New Beginnings Child Care Center to Build New Location

New Beginnings Childcare & Preschool, currently housed in the old Waukee Elementary School, could be in its new digs as early as next fall.

Behind and the Waukee Community Center, in the shadow of the , will soon be home to the .

Tonight, at its regular scheduled meeting, the Waukee City Council will vote on the final site plan for the New Beginnings location to be built at the corner of Fourth and Laurel Streets.

If approved, New Beginnings Director Lori Moritz says they could break ground yet this week.

"We are just so excited to be taking this next step," said Moritz. "It's been in the works for the last four months or so and it has been a lot of work, but we're really looking forward to getting started."

The building, expected to be approximately 7,700 square-feet, will include six rooms accommodating children from 6 weeks to kindergarten age. The center will also have a kitchen and large, indoor play area. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-October.

This is all good news for the childcare center once at the . Formerly known as the Happy Time Daycare, New Beginnings changed its name and moved into its temporary space in the old Waukee Elementary in September 2011.

Moritz said the center has thrived because of the support from the Waukee community.

"It's been a crazy ride," Moritz said. "The support we've had from the community and all our families has been overwhelming."

Moritz said the new location will accommodate 86 full-time students. Enrollment is being taken now for the fall. Parents interested in taking a tour or registering a child, can contact Lori Moritz at (515) 619-0399.
