Olympic Gold Medalists to Appear at Waukee YMCA Swim Clinic

Young swimmers will have the chance to get advice from two Olympic gold medal swimmers at a Nov. 11 clinic at the Waukee Family YMCA.

Olympic Gold Medal swimmers Peter Vanderkaay and Ian Crocker are coming to the Waukee Family YMCA.

The Waukee Y Rays Swim Team will host the Mutual of Omaha Breakout! Swim Clinic, featuring Vanderkaay and Crocker on Sunday, Nov. 11, from 3-7 p.m. Check-in time is 2:30 p.m.

There is a limit of 100 swimmers (ages 8-18) for this clinic and the cost is $75 per person. For more information contact Eric Kress at 515.987.9996 or eric.kress@dmymca.org.

Breakout! Swim Clinic is a total person approach to swimming and will build new skills and uncover hidden talents in each swimmer.

Vanderkaay is a four-time Olympic medalist middle distance swimmer. In the 2012 Olympic Games in London he won a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle. Four years earlier in Beijing, he won a gold medal in the 800m free relay and a bronze in the 200m free. He first competed in the Olympics in 2004 in Athens, winning a gold medal in the 800m free relay.

Crocker also competed in three separate Olympics. He specializes in the butterfly, winning a silver medal in the 100m butterfly at the 2004 Athens Games. He was a member of three gold medal winning 400m medley relay teams in 2000, 2004 and 2008. He also won a bronze medal as part of the 400m free relay team in 2004.
