On Aug. 27, the Waukee varsity dance team hosted a dance clinic for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Their students took the field Friday night at Waukee Stadium to show off what they learned.

On a warm Saturday morning in August, the Waukee varsity dance team hosted a clinic at Prairieview School to teach kids, kindergarten to fifth grade, how to well, dance.

The team hosted 70 girls that day and Friday night, during halftime of the sophomore football game against Ottumwa, those same girls showed off some wicked new moves.

Dance team coach Stephanie Guiter said this was the sixth year the team hosted the clinic. She said for the dancers, it's not only fun, but lets the dancers pass on some valuable lessons.

"It's one of the girls' favorite days," said Guiter. "They enjoy working with kids and giving them the experience of what it's like to perform in front of a crowd."

Guiter said the dance team will host another dance clinic in the spring.
