PHOTO TOUR: Waukee High School Addition Ready for First Day of School

Waukee High School underwent months of construction to expand and accommodate a constantly growing student population. The $14.1 million project is mostly complete in time for the 2012-13 school year.

students heading back to class are in for a huge surprise when they take to the halls tomorrow.

Construction on the high school's new academic wing is finally finished and will be open to students as they start the 2012-13 school year.

The project includes 22 new classrooms, additional lockers, a two-story library and media center, and an expanded cafeteria and kitchen area. The academic wing can accommodate an additional 1,800 students.

The athletics wing will include a large gymnasium/fieldhouse complete with ticket window and concessions, Hall of Fame, athletics records dispaly and large trophy case in addition to state-of-the art wellness facilities that will include a large wrestling room. The athletics wing will be complete in the next few weeks. 

Total additions to the building are just under 66,000 square-feet. Total cost of the project was approximately $14.1 million.
