Iowans from Waukee to Unionville turned out in droves for opening day at the Iowa State Fair Thursday to check out everything from rides and attractions, the new menu of fair food and all the great exhibits.

The Iowa State Fair, one of Iowa's truest institutions, runs through Aug. 19.
