Students entering kindergarten in the fall got a crash course in safety this week through the Waukee Police Department's Safety City program held at Waukee Middle School.
Students entering kindergarten in the fall got a primer on everything they need to know to start the 2012-13 school year at Safety City this week.Â
Safety City, sponsored by the Waukee Police Department, teaches kindergartners about safety using songs and activities that make sense to them.
Some of the subjects covered at this week's session include: bullying, pedestrian rules, street crossing, stop lights, Waukee Safe Houses, poisons and drug abuse, bus rules, 911, respect for authority, seat belts and bicycle safety.

A miniature "city" is used to teach students correct street crossing techniques using both tricycles (as vehicles) and by walking. Students also tour the Waukee Police and Fire Departments and participate in a graduation ceremony at the end of the week.Â
