Police: Teens Stopped in Stolen Car; Flee on Foot

Waukee police arrested three teenagers last week after a traffic stop revealed the car they were driving was stolen.

Three metro teenagers out for a joy ride in Waukee last week found themselves instead, under arrest.

In the early morning hours of July 11, Waukee police stopped an alleged stolen vehicle in the 14000 block of University Avenue. During the stop, three teenage males riding in the car fled on foot from the officers. Two of the teens were caught at the scene.

A 16 year-old male from Urbandale was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, minor in possession of alcohol, possession of stolen property and interference with official acts.

A second male, 17, from Des Moines was arrested and charged with minor in possession of alcohol, possession of stolen property and interference with official acts.

A third juvenile, a 16 year-old male from Des Moines, was arrested after he turned himself into police at the Waukee Police Department. He was also charged with minor in possession of alcohol, possession of stolen property and interference with official acts.

All three teens were released into the custody of their parents and referred to juvenile court.
