Terry Welker Hired as Human Resource Director for Waukee Schools

The Waukee Board of Education approved the hiring of the new Human Resource Director, Terry Welker, on Sept. 24.

Welker will fill the vacancy left by Duane Magee who accepted the executive director position with the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. Welker is currently working for the City of Scottsdale, Arizona as the executive director of Human Resources. There he serves more than 2,400 employees handling everything from benefits administration, to workforce development, to compensation and collective bargaining.

Welker brings with him more than 25 years of human resources experience and Master’s Degree in both Human Resources and Finance.  In 2004 he was a Havard Fellowship Recipient (Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program), an award based on the ability to manage change and make a positive impact on a community through the application of modern business practices. Welker has spent the last 10 years facilitating the management of employees through growth, change, and restructuring finances.

“As a change agent, I have acquired many valuable skills in helping organization match employee talent with the desired behaviors and actions needed for success,” Welker said.

As a native to Des Moines, Welker sees this as the perfect opportunity to “come home” and share the diverse skill sets he has acquired over the years.

Welker will begin working for the Waukee Community School District around Oct. 25.
