We learn from an early age that actions (and inactions) have consequences.
Thursday’s Supreme Court decision allows the largest tax increase in American history to go into effect, thus guaranteeing more uncertainty and unpredictability for Iowa small businesses and employers.

Unfortunately, Obamacare is just the latest in a series of actions (by Congress and the President) – or inactions (by the current Iowa Senate Majority) – that have not given employers and small businesses that confidence and certainty they badly need to help grow Iowa’s economy.
We have seen the failure of the current majority in the Iowa Senate fail to act on aggressive, authentic and permanent property tax relief. This same current majority also failed to move on a wide-ranging government regulation reform and also came up far short in revamping our education system to give our children the tools they need to compete in this increasingly global and mobile economy.

Whether it is destructive health care laws that mean a future of higher costs, higher taxes and increasing debt passed in Washington or whether it is inaction by Iowa Senate Democrats on critical job creating policy improvements – it is just the latest reminder that elections do have consequences.
