There’s plenty to do in Waukee in the days ahead, and if you want to travel into to Des Moines and around the metro, there’s plenty to do there, too.

Sheila Jordan and Cameron Brown at the Caspe Terrace: A recent winner of the National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Master designation, Sheila Jordan has been singing jazz since she came under the spell of Charlie Parker in the 1950s. Her sound is unmistakable. Her creativity is unmatched. Her love of jazz is contagious. And she does it all at age 84! Watching Sheila and long-time musical partner bassist Cameron Brown run the gamut from bebop to jazz standards is like watching two friends having a conversation, and in the intimate setting of the 150-seat auditrium at Caspe Terrace, you’ll feel like a participant in this swinging discussion. Tickets are $30 at the door.

School's Out Xtreme Bowling Party: School's out so they're having a party at Warrior Lanes. Come by from 1-3 p.m., Friday for a kid/family friendly glow bowling party. Cost is $9 per bowler includes 2 hours of glow-in-the-dark bowling and shoe rental.

Misfit Toyz at Mickey's Irish Pub: The Misfit Toyz is a classic rock cover band playing all the good stuff! They focus on your favorite cover music with the purpose of entertaining all ages with that great rock sound and a beat to keep you rockin'. . . with the energy you only get with rock & roll. The five member band has more than 60 years of musical experience bringing the Misfit Toyz a wide range of musical interests and vocal capabilities. They cover classic rock from the late 60’s and include rock, pop, blues, southern rock and country crossover into our play mix giving even greater variety to the Misfit Toyz. There is no cover charge to attend.

Ballet Des Moines: The inaugural company of six professional dancers will perform “Prelude: A Triple Bill” this weekend.

Explore Mysteries of the Castle: Des Moines’ own historic castle, the Salisbury House, will be decked in Halloween decor. Kids can participate in science experiments, storytelling, and face painting. See the Owl Lady, along with bats and other furry critters. Costumes are encouraged at this family friendly event.

Night Eyes: This Halloween tradition is a merry, not scary, event for the whole family.

Scary Jump Night: Each child will receive a glow necklace and treat bag. Fabric costumes are welcome but must be conducive to jumping.

Hullaboo: The Iowa Arboretum welcomes kids in costumes to join the parade of activities and treats, including hayrides, a hay maze, games, and pumpkin and scarecrow decorating.
