Waukee Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams Win Regional and District Meets

Both the Waukee girls and boys cross country teams won their respective regional and district meets last Thursday in Waukee.

It was cold, it was wet, and it was windy, but both the Waukee girls and boys cross country teams were on a hot streak last week as they competed in their respective regional and district meets.

The Waukee girls cross country team, coached by Heather Every, won the regional meet held last Thursday, Oct. 18, at Legacy Point Park in Waukee.

Three Waukee girls received All Regional honors: Kayla Sabotin (JR) 5th place, Erika Lewis (SO) 7th place, and Rachel Brush (FR) 8th place.

The remaining varsity girls placed as follows: Maddie Anderson (FR) 13th place, Brianna Young (SO) 16th place, Taylor Officer (SR) 19th place, and Jenny Brown (JR) 20th place.

The team scores are as follows: Waukee 49, Urbandale 51, West Des Moines Valley 56, Des Moines Roosevelt 64, Indianola 122, Fort Dodge 214, Des Moines Hoover 230, Des Moines Lincoln 232 and Des Moines East 249.

The Waukee boys, coached by Josh Maxwell, won the district boys meet also held at Legacy Point Park in Waukee.

Two Waukee boys received All District honors: Noah Larrison (JR) 4th place and
Ryan Tunink (JR) 10th place.

Remaining varsity runners placed as follows: Brennan Borgestad (JR) 11th place, Irvin Stumberg (SR) 12th place, Connor Simmons (SR) 13th place, Austin Krohnke (JR) 15th place, and Modhad Avan (JR) 18th place.

The boys team scores are as follows: Waukee 50, West Des Moines, Valley 58, Indianola 63, Des Moines Roosevelt 99, Urbandale 149, Fort Dodge 154, Des Moines Lincoln 202, Des Moines Hoover 248, and Des Moines East 266.

Both teams will compete in the 4A State Cross Country Meet to be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
