The Waukee Community School Foundation will be holding their Annual Gala Auction Fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.  This year’s event will be hosted at the Aviva Corporate Building on Jordan Creek Parkway.

This year’s theme is simply, “Waukee Pride.”  Come out in your purple and gold for a casual night of fun with friends and neighbors to support our school district.

There are many changes with this year’s event, most significantly the change in date from February to November and the change in venue.  Aviva has graciously offered to host the event to show their support for the Waukee school district.  They have a beautiful facility and are assisting with planning to make sure we have a great event.  We will not have formal sit-down dinner this year, but rather offer a variety of appetizers and desserts as well as multiple beverage options.

The event will continue to offer a large number of items available to bid on via silent auction as well as an exciting live auction.  The night concludes with music and dancing provided by a local DJ.

The Foundation was formed in 1996 as a conduit for alumni, parents, and businesses in the community to show their support for the district.  The Auction Fundraiser has raised anywhere from $25,000 - $50,000 for the needs of the district.  The funds raised by the auction are used as follows:

  • 30% of the money raised is put in an endowment fund for the Waukee Foundation Scholarships (formerly Dollars for Scholars).  Currently, the scholarship program has been self-sufficient and raised enough funds to meet the demand of each graduating class of seniors.  With this endowment, the Foundation has planned for the event when our class sizes outgrow the available funds raised short-term for the program.
  • The Foundation has donated $10,000 each of the last 5 years to fund professional development opportunities for our teachers.  This includes outside classes, seminars and conferences.
  • The Foundation has a grant program to allow teachers to apply for funding for innovative and creative programs, items, or projects for both inside the classroom and extracurricular programs.  Many of the grants are for pilot programs with new technology or techniques that allow for assessment of success on a small scale before budgeting for and rolling out district-wide.

The Foundation will be sending invitations to the event in September.  Make sure to register on RevTrak, http://waukee.revtrak.net/tek9.asp,  to attend this fun night for a great cause…our school district.

If you are willing to serve on the planning committee for the auction or donate an item for the silent or live auction, please email waukee.auction@gmail.com.
