Waukee Fest Returns to the Triangle Aug. 24 & 25

Waukee Fest, Waukee's premier summer celebration, kicks off on Friday, Aug. 24 on the downtown Triangle.

Get ready for Waukee Fest 2012 - the city's annual festival - slated to be held over two days this year, Aug. 24 & 25.

Waukee Fest 2012 promises to be even better than year's past with more food, more fun and more activities showcasing all that's great about the city of Waukee.

This year's theme - "Celebrate the Past" - honors the newly created Waukee Area Historical Society and the funding of a Local History Preservation Project by REAP, City of Waukee, and Friends of the Library.

Matt Jermeir, director of the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department, said the event continues to grow and represent the city of Waukee.

"We're very excited about Waukee Fest this year," he said. "It's great to have an event like this where we can provide an opportunity for residents to get out and network with their neighbors."

Friday, Aug. 24

7:30 - 11 p.m.  Street Dance & Fundraiser  

Bob Dorr and The Blue Band will officially kick off Waukee Fest 2012 with a concert and fundraiser benefiting the Waukee Area Arts Council. Tickets are $10 in advance/$12 at the gate. Buy your tickets at , by phone at (515) 402-7870 or at www.waukeearts.org.

Saturday, Aug. 25 

7 - 10 a.m. Waukee Rotary Club Breakfast
Breakfast provided by the Waukee Rotary Club on the downtown Triangle. All proceeds go toward a grant for the Waukee portion of the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

8 a.m. Waukee Fest 5K Fun Run
First annual Waukee Fest 5k Fun Run held at and sponsored by . Entry is $20 in advance/$25 day of. Participants can sign up online or by calling (515) 987-6353.

9 a.m. - 1 p.m.  Sports Tournaments
The city will host a disc golf tournament (beginner and advanced) and a sand volleyball tournament. Sign up at www.waukee.org/waukeefest.html or use the PDF forms included with this article.

9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m  Arts, Crafts and Food Vendors
Dozens of vendors selling arts, crafts, food and other non-food items.

9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Waukee City and Community Groups

11 a.m. Waukee Fest Parade
The Waukee Fest parade will begin at at 11 a.m. and end at the downtown Triangle. Line up for parade participants begins at 10 a.m. To register for the parade, go to http://www.waukee.org/waukeefest.html or sign up using the form attached to this article (at right).

11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Waukee Area Arts Council Community Tent
The will provide art activities, entertainment and other activities throughout the afternoon.

12 - 6 p.m. Kids Activities
Inflatables, mini golf, face-painting, Party with a Princess and more!

5:30 - 7:30 p.m. American Legion Steak Fry
The Waukee American Legion will host their annual steak fry in the community tent. Proceeds benefit Veterans' families.

6:30 - 10:30 p.m. Live Band and Beer Garden
Throwing Toast will perform on the Triangle. A beverage garden will be open during the performance.
