The Waukee Police Department is encouraging residents to review these holiday safety tips to prevent theft.

- Lock your cars at all times.
- Do not leave keys, fobs or garage door openers in cars when parked outside the home.
- Do not leave valuables in your car, especially overnight.
- If you must leave valuables in your car, place them in the trunk or some other place out of sight.
- If you have an attached garage, close the overhead door after you park your car.
- If you are expecting packages to be delivered when no one will be home, consider having them delivered to your workplace.
- Beware of scams this time of year. Avoid giving or sending money to people you have not met in person. If you are meeting them in person, meet in a public place.
- Immediately report suspicious activity to the Waukee Police Department. Non-emergency dispatch can be reached at 515-222-3321. For emergencies, call 911.
The Waukee PD also offers a free House Check Program for those away for the holidays for five consecutive days or more and/or "snowbirds" leaving for the entire winter. Learn more about the House Check Program.
