Waukee Residents Place in Iowa State Fair Contests

The 2011 Iowa State Fair is drawing to a close today but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still great news coming out of the Fairgrounds about the many talented residents of Waukee.

Here is a list of some of the latest winners from Waukee:

• Jim Adams took third place in the Pro Stock – 5 Pound division of the 2011 Micro-Mini Tractor and Truck Pulling competition.
• Chelsey Bruns took first place in the Planes, Trains & Automobiles photography class in the B&W or Color category.
• Joe & Kathy Follett took seventh and ninth places in the 50’s – 58’s 3/8 and 1/4 Blood combing class of the Farm Flock Fleeces Wool Show.
• Sarah Koethe swept the Decorated Cakes division in the Foods Department with blue ribbons in the Amateur – Wedding – Square; Amateur – Tiered Cake; Amateur - Wedding – Mixed Shape; Amateur – Cookies, Cupcakes, Cake Balls, Petit Fours; Amateur – Wedding – Round and Sweepstakes & Reserve divisions. Koethe also took second place in the Amateur – Sculpted division of the Decorated Cakes contest.
• Sharon Krause garnered second pace in the Vegetable class of the Ivy’s Quality Bread contest as well as a second place finish in the Midwest Living Cookies competition, Cake Mix Fix-Up – Bar class.
• Thomas McKern took second place in the Soy Oil Frying Frenzy, Appetizer division and third place in the Dessert division.
• Emily Safris took first place in the Adventureland – Intermediate, Cookies Other Than Named class; second place in the Sugar Cookies class; and Honorable Mention in the Banana Nut Bread class.
• William Snyder snagged two blue ribbons in the Clear Glass division of the Heritage contest, one in the Sweepstakes class and the other in the Vase class. He also took third place in the Primitives division, Stoneware class.
• Breanne White gathered third place for her Spring Yearling Heifers – Mar. 1-Apr. 1, Maine-Anjou division.
