Timberline came from a list of suggestions from area fifth-graders who were surveyed during the 2011-12 school year for potential school names. Administrators also consulted historical documents for the Waukee area for options.

Once open, Timberline would return the district to the PK-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-12 configuration it has had in past years. The building itself will hold up to 1,000 students. The district hopes to break ground on the new building later this fall.

Also on the naming block Monday night was the old Waukee Elementary. Expected to open for the 2013-14 school year, administrators want to give the school a name that doesn't conflict with the current Waukee Elementary School. Board members were calling it the Downtown School but tabled discussion on finalizing the name until its next meeting on Oct. 22.
