Waukee Schools Open House Tonight

Grab that backpack brimming with school supplies - open house for all Waukee Community Schools is tonight.

The all schools open houses are the perfect opportunity to meet your child's teacher, drop off school supplies, explore your child's classroom, help them find their locker and mingle with new and old friends.

Open house for , , , , , and elementary schools will be from 5 to 7 tonight.

Open house for grades 6-12 at , , and will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Before open house tonight, the Waukee Community Schools will welcome back staff at an event at .

Nearly 900 Waukee school employees will gather for the "Your Story Matters" event beginning at 7 a.m. today.

The event includes a motivational speaker and a one-act performance that explores diversity and identity. A question and answer session will follow.

During the 2010-11 school year, district administration, along with parents and staff created a committee meant to explore ways to highlight the diversity of the Waukee Community Schools through professional development, communication, curriculum and instruction, to name a few.

According to a Waukee schools news release, the Waukee Community School District defines diversity as, "Any aspect of an individual that makes her or him unique. The theme of the event comes from the philosophy statement: “It is our individual stories that make us diverse. Your story matters.”
