Waukee Students Head Back to Class Today

After one of the hottest summers in history, students in the Waukee schools start back to class today.

Today is the day.

After nearly three months of summer break, students in all 10 schools in the will head back to class today.

For some parents, pulling up in the drop-off lane and saying good-bye will feel like a huge relief. For others, tears probably began flowing a week ago as the very thought of their baby going to school for the first time was just too much to handle.

Whatever kind of parent you are, congratulations! You made it through the long, hot summer.

Whether you have a kid in kindergarten or 12th grade, you should start off the school year right by being on time to class. Start and end times are as follows: elementary, 8:50 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.; middle school, 8:05 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.; Prairieview School and Waukee High School, 8 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

If you have an incoming kindergartner, the first couple days of class are abbreviated. The schedule for Wednesday and Thursday is 9:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The first full day of class for the 2012-13 kindergarten class is Friday from 8:40 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.

As you head out today to take the kids to school, the wants to remind you to slow down, watch for pedestrians, and to give yourself more time to get where you need to go.
