Weather Alert: Waukee

We have this caution from the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Dallas County that includes the city of Waukee. The advisory goes into effect at 1 p.m. and will last until 8 p.m.

Today is expected to be hot and sunny with temperatures near 100 degrees. The heat index values could be as high as 105.

Thursday will bring more of the same with a high near 97. Heat index values will be as high as 100 degrees, tomorrow.

With temperatures reaching the extremes today, public safety officials suggest checking in on pets and the elderly.

If you're looking for ways to beat the heat, head over to the aquatic center. The pools open swim hours are 7 - 7:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m. - 5:20 p.m. and 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Maybe indoor activities are more your speed. In that case, the has a story, craft and playtime for children ages 1-3 and 3-6 beginning at 10 a.m. today. A teen program will be available at 2 p.m. this afternoon. Library hours are 9:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.

For you brave souls willing to take the heat, the Waukee Farmers Market will take place today from 4-7 p.m. on the downtown Triangle.
