Westwind Church Moves to a New Location
Westwind now offers Sunday services at the new Waukee South Middle School. Pastor Brandon Barker says the move is a positive one for the growing congregation.
Who says religion has to be practiced in a church?
Not the congregation at Westwind Church in Waukee. The growing congregation meets in the new South Middle School at 2350 L.A. Grant Parkway. It's the fourth location for this little church without a church. Westwind services were last held at Waukee Elementary School.
Westwind Church Pastor Brandon Barker said the church — which just turned 3 on Aug. 30 — has done well with the arrangement. It has allowed it to grow over time while not taking on the financial burden of buidling a permanent structure.

"It's been exciting for us," Barker said. "It's been a great journey and we love our partnership with the ."
Barker said the space at South Middle School is not only perfect for Sunday services, but also gives the congregation more room for child care, a welcome center and more parking.

Attendance at Westwind has steadily increased. Barker said the congregation is nearly 300 members strong and growing, quite a feat for this relatively new, interdenominational church.
"We're just a young church," Barker said. "We like what's being offered to us. With this economy and where we're at, we'll eventually want to lease some space, Â but this is working for us now."
Westwind worship services are held at 10 a.m. every Sunday at South Middle School. Beginning Sept. 14, Westwind will also offer Grow, a Wednesday night celebration of, "Faith, family and fun."
