Trump On The Trail: Donald Ducks Iowa Results, Wants A Caucus Do-Over

In which Trump demands an unprecedented move in American politics via a Wednesday-morning tweet storm.

Donald Trump is calling for a do-over in the Iowa Caucuses, saying that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz committed β€œfraud” when he sent an email to supporters that implied Dr. Ben Carson had dropped out of the race.

β€œTed Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he stole it,” Trump said as part of a Wednesday-morning tweet storm. β€œThat is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated. Bad!”

Then came the demand: β€œBased on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified.”

Cruz’s sins began as a grab for more evangelical voters, specifically Carson’s evangelical voters.

Carson created that opportunity when he bafflingly announced on caucus day that he was going home to Florida to β€œget a fresh set of clothes.”

So Cruz β€” fighting bible-and-nail for the religious vote that Carson attracted β€” sent an email to supporters that said Carson was β€œtaking time off from the campaign trail” and encouraged them to get caucus-goers to vote for him instead.

Carson called Cruz out for it, Cruz apologized and everyone went on their merry way.

Except for Trump.

His first tweet actually claimed that Cruz β€œillegally” stole Iowa, but he has since deleted that language: now he accuses Cruz of just plain ol’ stealing (his lawyers must be quick on the Twitter trigger).

Trump also said Cruz told voters that Trump supported Obamacare β€” the ultimate sin among Republican voters β€” which Trump called β€œa total lie!”

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate said he would forward voter fraud allegations to the Iowa GOP, which runs the caucuses (and hasn’t issued any sort of statement about the situation).

That’s likely The Iowa GOP’s way of saying, β€œWho finished second? We forget.”
