Des Moines, Iowa - Iowa welcomes Chef for Seniors, a growing national franchise that specializes in providing affordable, fresh, and healthy meals to senior citizens. Franchisee Iowa Culinary Services has chosen West Des Moines to launch the new location to serve the Des Moines Metro area.
The company’s local professional chefs prepare a weeks worth of affordable meals in the customers' homes using the freshest ingredients, while offering a fun interactive experience. Chefs for Seniors is a private meal preparation service which specializes in providing companionship with the chefs preparing the meals in the home of the client. Clients select meals from a regional menu which can be customized to the client’s dietary preferences and needs. The process aims to be an affordable option for seniors who may want fresh homecooked meals, but who may be physically unable to cook the meals for themselves.

“Being able to help seniors remain independent in the comfort of their homes with nutritious meals and companionship has been a goal of mine for a while. Chefs for Seniors provides an excellent, affordable way of doing that.” Says, co-owner, Jennifer Espeland.
Chefs for Seniors offers rotating menu options, which includes select Chef creations inspired by the region. Clients select their desired meal in advance, allowing the chef to shop and prepare the meals on the designated cooking day. Weekly meal plans begin at $150 for entrees with 10-12 servings (additional costs may apply for special dietary needs). Chefs prepare the meals between two and two and a half hours. After the meal is prepared and stored according to the client’s preferences, the chefs clean before leaving the house.
Jennifer Espeland and Bruce Voigt are co-owners of the new franchise. Espeland is a longtime resident of and active volunteer in the Des Moines area, Voigt is a 25-year US Air Force veteran and relocated to Des Moines in 2018.
Chefs for Seniors was started in 2013 by Barrett Allman and son Nathan Allman. The Allmans were inspired by the needs of an older family member who couldn’t cook meals for themself and had to enter into assisted living. The meal delivery service has been featured by NPR, The Boston Globe, Fast Company, and more. Within the last year, the organization has expanded across the country.
