West Des Moines-Based Hy-Vee Recalling Lettuce Possibly Contaminated With Listeria

Some bagged Hy-Vee brand lettuce has been voluntarily recalled after potential contamination with listeria.

Some bagged lettuce sold at Hy-Vee stores in West Des MoinesΒ may have been contaminated with listeria and is part of a national voluntary recall.

Affected lettuce includes Hy-Vee brand bagged lettuce with best buy dates between May 12 and May 22, of the following varieties:

The lettuce recall is part of a national voluntary recall by River Ranch Fresh Foods, which packages lettuce under the brand names River Ranch, Farm Stand, Hy-Vee, Marketside, Shurfresh, and The Farmer’s Market.

River Ranch told CBS News no illnesses have been reported and CBS said the contamination was discovered during random sampling.

Listeria is generally not a lethal affliction, unless contracted by pregnant women, the very young, or the very old.

In Iowa City, some of the recalled lettuce was served in school lunches.
